The APPG for Radiotherapy had their first official meeting to discuss the key issues with these services within the NHS. The group discussed their manifesto to establish the aims of the group moving forward. The Manifesto is due to be published later in the summer. Gillian Keegan MP sits as a Vice-Chair for the group. The group has brought on 'Action Radiotherapy' a national charity dedicated to improving radiotherapy treatment by supporting patients and professionals to act as the secretariat for the group.
In the meeting Gillian ensured that the groups focus would be on 'the needs of patients and not organisations. ' The Chichester MP spoke about many of the issues facing radiotherapy services such as inter-trust competition and insufficient training for the long-term provision of qualified staff in the field, pulling on her 30 years of prior business experience and her work as a Governor at Chichester's St Richard's Hospital.
