West Sussex MPs statement on school funding.
“Local MPs campaigned to secure a Conservative Party commitment to make funding fairer. We ensured it was introduced by the Conservative Government. We then, alongside parents, heads, teachers and West Sussex County Council campaigned for and secured improvements to the Government’s initial proposals.
At every stage we have won battles to improve the relative position of West Sussex schools. We will continue to strive for a better deal for West Sussex schools and will do so in the way we feel is most likely to secure success. We are meeting the Education Secretary to ensure he is fully aware of the concerns being expressed by MPs, heads, parents and teachers. We will also work with the County Council and schools, focusing on achievement and standards. Many areas of the country, funded at similar levels or worse, achieve significantly better results than West Sussex at Key Stage 2. The best possible funding and educational achievement are our aims.”
