The NHS celebrated 74 years of service this week, so I wanted to pay tribute to all those who work in the health service and say a massive thank you and happy birthday! The past few years have tested the NHS in a way none of us could have imagined and today it continues to manage the legacy of the pandemic.
Recognising this the Government is providing historic investment, with NHS England’s day-to-day budget set to grow by 3.8% on average up to 2024/25 – meaning spending on health services will grow to over £177 billion by the end of this Parliament.
In addition to more than £97 billion allocated for the Covid-19 response across health and social care, as a Government, we are absolutely committed to supporting the NHS recovery from Covid-19. Over £8 billion will be spent up to 2024/25 to support the delivery of around nine million more checks, scans and procedures. It will also mean the NHS can aim to deliver around 30% more elective activity by 2025 than before the pandemic.
Turning to a very different kind of care, last weekend I visited the newly refurbished RSPCA Mount Noddy Animal Rescue Centre near Eartham. Their £4 million investment at the site has been transformational, since I visited in 2019, they have now installed high-tech services such as a cat and kitten specialist birthing centre, a hydrotherapy unit, and even dog treadmills. All this aids their ongoing work to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome cats and dogs. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported the charity and all those who work there. They make a massive difference having already found 128 animals a new home this year.
On a separate note, despite the political headlines the work continues and I am looking for someone to come and join my team in Chichester, to help support people in need across our area. As a caseworker, your work will assist me in responding to local people who contact me to get help and support. To find out more visit my website: www.gilliankeegan.com/jobs
