Following Gillian's enquiries to the JNCC about designating The River Ems under SSSI status (Site of Special Scientific Interest), they've now responded clarifying their role in SSSI designation. In their letter to Gillian, they advise their role is to determine what habitat feature would warrant such designation rather than put areas forward. Gillian is continuing to work with the Friends of the Ems community group and local Councillor, Roy Briscoe to protect the river.
