Gillian has launched a Chichester Climate Challenge for school children and students, at Primary and Secondary Schools respectively, to celebrate COP26.
Gillian has written to schools across the area encouraging them to take part in the competition which asks the next generation to come up with ideas on how to help improve the environment and mitigate climate change.
The winner will be selected by Gillian who will then take the idea to the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, where she will share the details of the winners' idea with him directly.
Children in Primary School, have been asked to submit an A4 digital poster, explaining or storyboarding their idea, and an optional 300 (max) written explanation.
For senior schools Gillian is looking for: innovative and exciting ideas, however, the key judging criteria will be on how well thought through the ideas’ are as well as their feasibility. For example, if a student has identified an area for rewilding, she’s looking for things like: why is the site a good place, who might need to give permission, what are the potential impacts (positive and negative) and who might have to pay for it.
As before, submissions should be sent by email and the written element should be no longer than 500 words, with an optional one-page digital poster containing graphics, design ideas or storyboard, if appropriate.
The submissions should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line ‘Chichester Climate Challenge – [idea name]. Included in the submission should be the name(s) of the students, age, class and/or year group and school. There is no limit to how many per school – it can be individual students, classes, year groups or the whole school. The deadline for entries is Friday 26 November 5 pm.
