Last week I visited the wonderful Selsey Care Shop, which is a hub for the Selsey Community Forum who run an incredible array of support programmes that have been more important than ever this year – helping people at risk of isolation, offering a support network for carers, and money advice services. On top of this, they’re also home to the local Dementia action alliance CAPS?, wellbeing services and Grow Selsey which runs gardening projects around the town.
The team led by Mike Nicholls, Jo Hughes and Karen Pirks have been the backbone of Selsey’s response to the pandemic and I know the whole town is enormously grateful, as I am, for their dedication to helping others. It was particularly special to visit when I did, as last week was volunteer’s week, and the team there had just received one of my ‘Community Hero Awards’ – so it was wonderful to be able to thank them all in person.
On Friday 25th June, from 3pm to 5pm, my team and I, have organised the Chichester Community Conference, to discuss some of the key local concerns people have in our area. We will be looking into issues around planning and development, water quality in the Chichester Harbour, and local infrastructure including the A27.
I will be joined by representatives from the key agencies involved in making these decisions including, both our local councils, the Environment Agency, Highways England, Southern Water and Natural England. Like most things over the past year, the event will be online. We are asking people to pre-submit their questions to my office in advance so we can ensure we cover the most requested topics.
