Lucy Owen, constituent and University of Oxford student
These two weeks have been such an exciting time to be in Parliament. The buzz surrounding the leadership election has been gripping and I feel very privileged to have been surrounded by people willing to share their highly informed, yet very different, preferences on who next leads the Conservative Party.
A personal highlight was sitting down to my lunch, only to be able to speak to a historian/political journalist (Andrew Marr!) who I really admire.
Working in Gillian Keegan’s office, sorting emails, researching briefs and helping to plan events, has certainly made me more aware of all the different responsibilities an MP’s office has within their constituency. I also appreciated experiencing the history of the Parliamentary Estate, and it was great to visit the Chamber and watch MPs debate.
I’m very grateful to Gillian and her lovely team for this opportunity, and I hope to be able to return to Westminster in the future.
