Chichester Conservative Association has confirmed that Gillian Keegan has been adopted as the official Conservative candidate for the next General Election. Commenting after their latest meeting, the Association's Chairman, Jane Kilby, said:
"I am delighted that Gillian Keegan was unanimously readopted as the Conservative parliamentary candidate by the members of Chichester Conservative Association. In addition to her ministerial role, Gillian continues to spend an incredible amount of time in the constituency, visiting local businesses and charities, holding regular surgeries for constituents, and raising local issues at a national level."
Gillian Keegan has served as the Member of Parliament for Chichester since 2017, having previously served as a councillor and cabinet member on Chichester District Council. As well as her role as a dedicated MP, Gillian also serves in the Government as Secretary of State for Education.
Following her adoption by the Association, Gillian commented: "I'm so pleased to have once again been adopted as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Chichester. It has been an honour to serve as this community's Member of Parliament for the last six years. Throughout my time I have worked continuously to ensure Chichester is a wonderful place to live, work, study and visit.
"I have fought for increased investment in St Richards and our health services including a new school of nursing and allied health. We will continue to campaign to bring radiotherapy services to St Richard’s.
"Our harbour and natural environment are vital and I continue to put pressure on the water companies through my campaign to reduce water abstraction in the river Ems and my three-point plan to stop sewage spills in the harbour and increase transparency from water companies, with work now underway to update the Victorian infrastructure.
"I have championed our thriving local economy ensuring our farmers and growers have seasonal agricultural worker visas and a strong skills offer, as well as supporting our businesses during the pandemic.
"I look forward to continuing this work in 2024 and beyond and fighting the next general election on a positive record of delivering for the people of Chichester."
