Gillian visited the Bourne Community College STEM Partnership to meet students and their teachers to celebrate the launch of their new STEM partnership (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Last year, I opened Bourne’s STEM Centre which houses facilities including science laboratories, and maths classrooms, so it was wonderful to go back and see them benefitting so many children.
The Partnership goes beyond the College working with local schools, including Bosham, Funtington, Westbourne, Southbourne, and Chidham primaries, to target the pupils in greatest need of support in these vital subjects to increase attainment and aspirations towards STEM careers. As a group they share teachers, resources , and take part in group engagement with STEM ambassadors and clubs.
Gillian said: "It was wonderful to see all the different projects available, including robotics, green power, and even work with rockets! As someone who started their working career in a car factory, I know first-hand how valuable these skills can be."
