Since 2010 crime, excluding fraud, has been cut by 55 per cent. However there is still works to be done and Gillian is aware that shop workers and keepers in Chichester continue to be impacted by theft, abuse and violence.
In response to this, the Government has launched a tough crackdown on these offences through a raft of new measures including:
- Tougher penalties such as tags for repeat offenders to prevent future offences
- £55.5 million for facial recognition technology to identify offenders and disrupt organised crime
- A specific new offence in the Criminal Justice Bill for assaulting shop workers, delivering on our plan to drive down crime
The Government taking strong action to stop crime make our high streets safer and better places to shop.
