The Education Committee will question Minister for Skills and Apprenticeships Gillian Keegan MP as part of the adult skills and lifelong learning (ASALL) inquiry.

This will be the final oral evidence session of the inquiry and is an opportunity for the Committee to pick up on evidence that has been gathered throughout the inquiry and question the Minister on future ASALL priorities.
Purpose of the session
The session will allow Members to explore a range of topics and is likely to focus on the National Retraining Scheme and National Skills Fund, participation, funding and community learning, as well as the need to successfully implement immediate strategies for Covid-19 recovery.
The inquiry is exploring key themes such as participation in ASALL, the balance and range of different forms of provision, upskilling and reskilling, and employer led-training. The inquiry is also examining the role played by local authorities and combined authority areas in providing adult education.
With an estimated 10-35% of UK jobs at “high risk” of replacement in the next 20 years, according to 2018 research commissioned by the DfE, adult learning and retraining will be fundamental to Britain ensuring it has the skills to match a changing economy.
