Gillian visited the Tangmere Vaccination Centre on Friday last week, to thank staff and volunteers and see first hand how the operations were going at the centre.
On the day of her visit, the centre was carrying out second dose jabs to local people over the age of 65, with a total of 800 inoculations per day. The MP described the operations as “efficient” witnessing the steady flow of people going coming and going. On her tour of the facilities, Dr Alice Chishick who’s part of The Chichester Alliance of Medical Practices, the group of GPs running the site explained they also manage the community services, reaching well over 3,000 of the most vulnerable local people in their homes.
Gillian said, “The fantastic team at Tangmere, led by Jenna, are doing an exceptional job to vaccinate the local community. I was hugely impressed by the efficiency of all the staff and volunteers who are getting through a huge volume of people every day and have now given more than 17,000 jabs at the site. I know we are all so grateful for their relentless efforts to protect their community, and I look forward to visiting the centre again for a village event when life returns to normal.”
Gillian’s visit came in the same week that the national total surpassed 45 million vaccines delivered across the UK, a figure climbing every day. So far the UK has offered a vaccine to everyone in the UK within categories one to nine. Meaning everyone over the age of 50, the clinically vulnerable and those working in health and social care settings, have been offered a vaccine - a milestone reached ahead of the Government’s own targets. The call has now been given to all those over the age of 44 to book their jab appointment, meaning the programme is on track to meet the national target of reaching all adults by the end of July, which is around 53 million people.
